The Commission Process

Please note that there are no drafts or updates for my Classical Studies or for those who choose to opt out of them for Standard Portraits - skip to ‘Final Preview’

The Drafts

  • Upon payment of the invoice, I will then start working on your commission.

2-5 days after payment (depending on the commission type), I will send through 3-4 rough drafts. Emphasis on rough! I’m a messy drafter, and have only become more so over the years.

These drafts are quick and loose, and are only meant to give us a direction to start from - they may look a bit scary to start, but rest assured that they’ll soon start coming together!

  • My advice when choosing a draft is just to go with your gut. More often than not, your first choice is the one you should go with!

The main things I’m asking you to look at here are posing and hoiw you like the ‘feel’ and flow of the overall image, since colours can and will change throughout the process.

So, which pose most reminds you of your pet? Which composition really draws your eye or captures a mood?

There’s no rush with these, so take your time. Have a look, choose your initial favourite, then leave them for a day or so and come back - if you still feel the same, you’ve probably found your portrait!

Rendering

  • Once we’ve settled on a draft and made any necessary changes to colours or posing, I’ll then start the rendering process.

I will keep you updated with regular emails, and ask for your feedback at every major stage of the portrait.

I always welcome you to voice any concerns or ideas you may have. I love getting feedback - good or bad - so please never be afraid to speak up!

  • Update frequency may vary depending on the commission type and how busy I am with other commissions, however I will always try to get in touch with you at least once a week.

Final Preview

  • Once I’ve added all the final details and am happy with the portrait, I’ll send through a final preview.

This is your last chance to request any minor changes or adjustments before we close the commission.

Minor changes may include: Tweaking colours, adjusting pupil sizes, adding specific little markings/whiskers, adjusting brightness/contrast.

  • Once you’ve confirmed you’re 100% happy with the portrait, I’ll send through the final files and consider the commission closed.

After the final files are sent, I will no longer make any adjustments to the portrait.
